» Svengali_uk - BMW 528i Overheating

I recently had my BMW - purchased a month ago s/h - serviced. I then drove about 80 miles, and then at about 1.30 am and a mile from home I felt the heating go off. shortly afterwards a red light came on, guage against the backstop.
As I had no option at that time of the morning, and down a country lane, I carried on home, slowly. Next morning I went back to the garage, thinking that they had screwed up.
They found my rad was leaking, & that someone had done a bodgy repair job with mastic, and that the rad was filled with leak-sealing gunge. They replaced the rad. I drove about 80 miles, and the warning light came on again. This time I got carried back to the garage.
Since then, the garage has replaced the thermostat, verified that the water-pump is in perfect condition, power-flushed out the system, done a chemical test to check the head gasket, checked the fluid for signs of oil contamination, bled the system, had the rocker cover off to look for signs of contamination - and the car still overheats.
It can run for several miles perfectly well, then the heating goes, & the car overheats. There is a fluid loss - or at least, the level drops - but no sign of an external leak. The garage has been in contact with the nearest BMW Dealer, but they also are stumped. Can you help, please?

I would make sure the heater core is not leaking. Do you smell antifreeze at all. Also check you coolant temparature sensor.
