A Volkswagen Jetta that has exhaust fumes inside the car and a Toyota Camry Solara that has an intermittent brake light on.
Question: 1998 Volkswagen Jetta1998 Volkswagen Jetta. When you turn the heater on you can smell exhaust fumes. Shut it off and it goes away. Thanks, Ken Answer: If you smell exhaust fumes with the heater on then you probably have a cracked exhaust manifold or front exhaust pipe. I would get this looked at as soon as possible since this is an extremely dangerous condition since the fumes will seep in even when the blower motor is off. Question: 2003 Toyota Camry SolaraVince: I have a 2003 Toyota Camry Solara. The dashboard BRAKE light has been coming on intermittently and now stays on all the time. I took apart the center console and checked the parking brake switch, which checked on okay both for adjustment and continuity. So, I then removed the connector from the brake reservoir and the dashboard light went out; it appears to be a defective level switch in the brake reservoir (it's full). Can I change the level switch itself, or do I need a whole new brake reservoir. What if I do nothing. The indicator still works with the parking brake. Thank you, Michael Ellis Answer: The brake fluid level sensor used to be built into the master cylinder cap and was easily replaceable, now they build it into the master cylinder so to replace the sensor you have to replace the brake master cylinder. Sounds like something GM would do. Leaving it unplugged wont hurt anything as long as the parking brake will turn the light on. You will just have to check the brake fluid level once a month or so, or while you're waiting for the gas tank to fill. Question: 1995 Jeep CherokeeI own a 1995 jeep Cherokee and I am having signal light issues. When the headlights are on the left signal light turns on but does not flash. When the headlights are off it will flash but the rest of the dash lights flash with it. We have checked all the fuses and bulbs and they are all fine. Can you maybe tell us what the next step is. Stacy Answer: I know you said you checked all the bulbs but this condition is usually caused by the wrong type bulb in one of the turn signal sockets. If a signal filament bulb is installed in a double filament socket the bulb will bridge both contacts and feed power back into the dashboard. When the headlights are on power from the parking lights feed back into the dashboard as well. Pull all the bulbs out and make sure you have the right bulbs for the particular bulb sockets.
