We have one Jeep Cherokee that's taking on water and another Jeep Cherokee that keeps stalling.
Question: Jeep Cherokee Stalling ProblemHello there, My daughter has a 1994 Jeep Cherokee that has begun stalling. It will start again. What troubleshooting can I do before I spend big bucks on a mechanic? Thank you, Jill Answer:As much as I would like to help you Jill you didn't provide me with too much information such as engine size, transmission, mileage and at what times does it stall. So the best I can do is offer some possibilities and things to check in general. One of the most common causes of engine stalling is vacuum leaks. Either a vacuum line broke or came off. It's also possible the intake manifold gasket has gone bad causing a vacuum leak. Another common cause of stalling is an EGR valve that doesn't completely close when coming to a stop. It's possible that the fuel filter is clogged to the point where the engine is not getting enough fuel to operate properly. Many times the stalling is due to lack of maintenance. Before looking for something complicated we need to make sure the basics are good. I would get a complete tune-up, spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor. Also an oil and filter change, air filter and fuel filter. There are some good articles here, Trouble Shooting, that will help you with the basics. Most of the time this alone will be enough to fix the stalling problem. If not then we have a sound base to start troubleshooting further. Question: Jeep Cherokee Taking On WaterHi, I purchased a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo to get to work and back in the winter. I bought the Jeep last October and I loved it. This year though, there seems to be a very extensive leak in the front that is collecting on the floor. It started on the passenger side and is now on the driver side also. I have vacuumed a huge amount of water from this area. Every time I drive the car it sloshes into the backseat. I was going to have the windshield replaced thinking it was leaking, but the guy there said not to bother. He told me that there is a fresh air vent that is probably clogged up and he finds this a very common problem with this model. Have you ever heard of this as being a common problem? If I can stop the huge amounts of water from leaking by fixing a window then I could solve my problem. He said it is very expensive to fix the leak if it is a fresh air vent. I love this little Jeep and hate that it could be getting moldy, and it is very, very, wet. We have had a record rainfall in the Pacific Northwest and I am very concerned. Can you give me some insight into this problem? Thank you very much, Stacy Answer:I don't know about the fresh air vent being clogged being a common problem but I do know that the floor pans on these vehicles rot out and allow water to enter the vehicle. Before doing anything else I would take it to a Jeep Dealer and have them place the vehicle on a hoist and inspect the floor pans from underneath for corrosion. If there is there is a repair kit available to repair them.
