Radio Question & Plymouth VoyagerAutomotive Radio Questions & A 1996 Plymouth Voyager
Automotive radio questions concerning a Mazda 626, a Chrysler Lebaren, and a 1996 Plymouth Voyager with a TCC code.
Question: Automotive Radio QuestionsVincent, A couple of questions about auto radios. 1. My Mazda 626 has an intermittent speaker problem. As I drive I lose and regain sound on a couple of speakers. Nothing was done to this system recently; it just started to happen all of a sudden. Any suggestions? 2. I have a 1994 Chrysler Lebaren convertible where the FM radio will not function, just static. The AM selection works fine. Any troubleshooting suggestions? Thanks, Ron Answer: When it comes to automotive sound systems, there's not a whole lot one can do. Outside of the wiring there is nothing that can be repaired. If it's anything other than an OEM sound system I can't help you other than basic suggestions as to what to look for. 1. Check the connections at the speakers to make sure they are clean and tight. Door speakers can be prone to corroded connections. If they are corroded, it's better to cut off the connectors and install new ones. Clean the speaker contacts with some fine sandpaper. A small dab of white lithium grease inside the new connector will keep the contacts from corroding again. After that make sure the connector for the radio is clean and tight as well. If this doesn't fix the dropping, then you have an internal radio problem or a problem with the speaker wiring harness. 2. No troubleshooting here, you need a new radio. Check the antenna and its connections, but if you're getting good AM then the antenna is okay. Question: 1996 Plymouth VoyagerMy "check engine" light is on and diagnostics called out the fault above-TCC Solenoid Circuit Open. The transmission was rebuilt about 1,000 miles earlier and has a new torque converter. The car seems to run and shift fine, but I am worried something bad may happen if I continue to drive it. Should I try changing the solenoid? The "check engine" light went off for 1 day but came back on. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Please, when you write me include the actual code number. There are a couple of thousand Diagnostic Trouble Codes and it takes a long time to try and match a description to a number. In addition TSBs always use a code number in the title and not the description. Circuit open means that somewhere in the circuit there is an open, usually a bad component, loose connector or a broken wire. This is the closest thing to the code you described: Name of Code:Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit When Monitored:With the ignition key on. Set Condition:An open or shorted condition is detected in the torque converter clutch solenoid control circuit. Theory of Operation:The solenoid controls the operation of the converter clutch. A small current continuously senses the state of this circuit when the ignition key is turned on. Possible Causes:
