A 1996 Jeep Cherokee with a code P0108 ad a 2002 Chevy Malibu that won't always start.

Question: Jeep Cherokee DTC P0108

Hi, I have a problem with my Jeep. I asked a friend to check my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with computer reading and the results were as follows:

P0108 - MAP/BARO CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT

Can you tell me what do those codes mean? Also My Jeep is on High four wheel drive all the time and could not be changed, can you tell me why and what should I do?

Thank you,

Sue

Answer:

The MAP sensor measures Manifold Absolute Pressure and ambient barometric pressure inside the intake manifold. It provides a 0 to 5 volt signal to the PCM. The MAP Sensor puts out a low voltage signal, 0.5 to 1.8 volts, at idle when the manifold vacuum is high, and a higher voltage signal, 3.9 to 4.8 volts, at full throttle when manifold vacuum is low. The MAP receives a 5-volt supply from the PCM. Voltage may vary from 4.8 to 5.1 volts. Ground for the sensor is provided by the PCM. So you probably have a bad MAP sensor or possibly a bad PCM.

As for the 4WD, you may have shift linkage that is broken or binding. It's also possible the transfer case may have internal damage. If the vehicle was driven in 4WD High on dry pavement for an extended period of time it may be excessive driveline torque is preventing it from shifting out of 4WD High. To eliminate this as a possibility you will need to raise the vehicle until all four wheels are off the ground and then shift it to 2WD High. Also driving on a sand or dirt road will eliminate the stress and allow you to shift into 2WD High.

Question: Chevy Malibu Won't Start Sometimes

I own a 2002 Chevy Malibu and my theft system light came on and went away. The next day the car would not start so we followed the instructions in the manual and that did not help. We let car sit for about 2 hours followed the manual again and it started. The light has not come on since that has been 2 days now should I be concerned? What should be my next step?

Answer:

I would take it to your Chevy Dealer and let them scan the system for Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Inside the ignition switch there are two small wires that read the chip on the key. I have seen these wires break since they are kind of delicate. Some GM models were recalled due to this problem and your Chevy Dealer will know if it applies to your vehicle.
