A 1998 Ford Windstar with transmission problems and a 1998 GMC Jimmy rear hatch problem.
Question: Ford Windstar Shifting ProblemsI have a 1998 Ford Windstar with an automatic transmission that cross shifts in fourth gear. Have you any idea of a fix for this. After driving awhile the over drive light starts blinking and the transmission shifts hard from start up if I put it in neutral and shut off the ignition then restart, it resets the transmission for awhile. My gut feeling is this is an electrical problem but of course Ford wants to do a $2000.00 transmission job. Any thoughts on this? Thanks, John Giarrusso Jr. Answer:The fact that it 'resets' itself does indicate it is an electrical problem. I'm afraid we have a bit of a terminology problem. I don't understand what you mean by "cross shifts". The PCM will store a DTC to indicate what the problem is. Some transmission codes will not turn the MIL on but will store in the PCM. There are five electronically controlled solenoids, three on/off solenoids for shifting, one pulse-width modulate solenoid for Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) control and an Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid for line pressure control. Any one of these may be bad, or perhaps the PCM itself is bad. Question: GMC Jimmy Rear HatchRear Hatch window will not open. Checked emergency release inside tailgate. Does not seem to be neutral/park switch. Remote release tries to work in neutral/park but does not release in gear. Any ideas? 1998 GMC Jimmy. Answer:You really don't have to be so terse, I don't charge by the word. It's trying to unlock so I would guess that electrically everything is okay. I have seen some of these that go out of adjustment over time. I would recommend having a body shop look at it and make any adjustments that may be necessary.
