This weekly Q&A session answers your questions about cars and trucks. This week explores a flush machine maker trying to defend their product.

Question: Flush Machines Are Good

Vince, I have been reading some of your comments on companies who manufacture fluid exchange machines and quite frankly I am very disappointed in you.

Over and over you say that the only reason that a company would recommend a fluid service is because they have purchased one of the machines. I thought I would provide another reason for you.

BG Products manufactures machines and chemicals used to clean up, exchange and condition all fluids found in conventional vehicles. WE DO recommend fluid exchanges on high mileage vehicles PROVIDING that the fluids have been maintained properly. (ie. every 30,000 miles or so.) We DO NOT recommend fluid services on vehicles that come in with little or no service history because it is easy to blame a fluid service when the actual failure was the owner's poor service history. Fluids wear out FIRST, then the component. If the component is already beginning to wear, NO fluid or supplement will heal it.

We also back up our services with what we call Protection Plan. As long as the vehicle is serviced every 30kg, BG gives each component up to $4,000 of protection. If the component fails, BG pays. This is a LIFETIME PROTECTION PLAN. BG Protection Plan is also fully transferable. That's how much we believe in our products and services. Engine, trans, power steering, coolant, brakes and drive line.... Sometimes the BG Protection Plan can total more than $30,000!

Answer:

No automobile manufacturer in the world recommends any kind of flush for it's vehicles. Many automobile manufacturers recommend AGAINST any kind of flush services. Said services will in fact VOID any new car warranty and most extended warranties.

The only ones that recommend these services are the shops who buy the equipment and those that manufacture the equipment. There are operators who use the "recommenced" ploy to sell, often, unneeded work to customers who are ignorant of the possible fatal consequences that can be done to their vehicles.

Too many engines and transmissions are destroyed neededlessly by these machines. Billions of dollars are wasted by consumers whose ignorance has been taken advantaged of by seedy and unscrupulous repair shops.

That's all for this week. Feel free to browse the archives for past topics and other resources. And, as always, if you are stuck and need an immediate answer you can always call Vince on the phone. For a limited time new callers get the first three minutes free!
