A 1993 Buick Park Avenue with CV Joints needing greasing and a 1997 Chevy S10 with an A/C problem.
Question: 1993 Buick Park Avenue CV JointsVince, Can I grease my CV joints in the front of 1993 Buick Park Avenue by punching in a grease needle through the boot. Thanks, Ray Reilley Answer: Well Ray, you can do it that way but in about 10 miles after doing it all the grease you pumped in there, and any that was already in there, will be pushed out by centrifugal force. The only way to do it is to remove the boots, clean the joints and pack them with fresh grease. If the boots are not torn and there is no sign of leakage, adding grease is not necessary. Question: 1997 Chevy S10 A/CVince, Congrats and good luck on new site. Problem: A/C compressor clutch engages for a few seconds and then shuts off. Keeps cycling this way. Any thoughts? I'm a newbie and sort of a greenhorn DIY guy. Thanks!!! Ed Y. Answer: Thank you Ed, I appreciate It. When an A/C system cycles on and off such as you describe it is usually due to a low refrigerant level. You will need to have the system tested by a shop that is licensed to do A/C work. If the refrigerant level is low then it leaked out. The leak must be found and repaired before adding new refrigerant.
