Question: 1995 Jeep Cherokee

I own a 1995 Jeep Cherokee and I am having signal light issues. When the headlights are on the left signal light turns on but does not flash. When the headlights are off it will flash but the rest of the dash lights flash with it. We have checked all the fuses and bulbs and they are all fine. Can you maybe tell us what the next step is.

Answer: I know you said you checked all the bulbs but this condition is usually caused by the wrong type bulb in one of the turn signal sockets. If a signal filament bulb is installed in a double filament socket the bulb will bridge both contacts and feed power back into the dashboard. When the headlights are on power from the parking lights feed back into the dashboard as well.

Pull all the bulbs out and make sure you have the right bulbs for the particular bulb sockets.

Question: 1995 Ford Taurus

1995 Ford Taurus 3.0 liter V-6. The car did not pass its smog test here in Los Angeles, Ca. I am pretty sure I can do the EGR valve myself. I was told the catalytic converter would need to be replaced too. It is not a gross polluter but it is over the allowed limit. It has two bolt on converters that will need to be replaced. I was hoping that you could help by giving me a ballpark figure of the cost for the repair. I do not expect anything more than just something to go on. I would appreciate any info you could hook me up with. Thank you.

Answer: Before I tell you the cost of each converter make sure you are sitting down. If you have a weak heart, close your browser immediately! Ready? Okay. The cost of each catalytic converter is $1446.38. And you can figure on 1 hour labor for each converter.

The EGR Valve costs $102.51 and the labor to replace it is .8 hours and .9 hours to clean it. This includes the pin test as well.

These are prices from Ford, aftermarket parts would be a lot less for the catalytic converter and EGR Valve.

Question: 1990 Mazda B2600i

Hello, 1990 Mazda B2600i. I washed the engine compartment today and everything was running okay. Later it wouldn't start, so I dried out the distributor cap. No luck. It seems like it is getting no spark or fuel. Any suggestions?

Answer: It could be almost anything Anthony, a broken or unplugged harness connector, broken or disconnected vacuum line(s), water in the wiring harness or water intrusion into the relays.

Not much I can offer you here except to check power to the coil and fuel pump.
