Question: 1993 GMC Safari Won't Start

I have a problem. I have a 1993 GMC Safari mini-van. Before it stopped running, the van was hesitating like it needed gas. So we changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter. Now the van motor turns over but will not start. What is the problem? The throttle linkage also broke off the vacuum thingy. This might be the problem. No gas is getting into the motor. What should I do? I don't want to take the van to the repair shop, too costly.

Answer: There are a lot of "vacuum thingys" on this engine so you would need to be more specific. I'm assuming you replaced it and it still doesn't start.

There were two injection systems used on that engine so without knowing which I can only give you general suggestions. First we need to do a fuel pump pressure test. Let's make sure the new fuel pump is good before we go looking for other things. If it is we need to see if the fuel pump is getting power. Without the engine running and with the key on the PCM will only power the fuel pump for two seconds or so. Check for power at the gray wire of the fuel pump. If there is power there then you have a ground problem. If you do we need to work back to the fuel pump relay.

I know you checked all the fuses with a test light so we know they are all good. You did check the fuses... right? Okay, then we need to check for power at the "D" terminal (orange wire) of the fuel pump relay. If there is no power there you have an open between the ECM B fuse and the relay. With the engine cranking, check for power at the "A" terminal (dark green/white wire) if there is no power there, check for it at terminal E16 of the red PCM connector. If you have power there you have an open between the PCM and the relay. If there is no power there, you have a bad PCM.

Question: Hard Shifting Nissan Pathfinder

Hello, I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and I am having difficulty lately in moving the shift lever from Park to Drive or Reverse positions. This problem occurs only on very cold days. I see no problem in shifting when there is sunlight. Can you please tell me how to fix this problem? How much will it cost to fix this problem if I take it to a service garage for repair?

Thank you for your advice.

Sincerely,

Kumar

Answer: I just got a new TSB on this condition. The A/T shift lever is hard to move between shift selector positions because the slide plate is binding or the slide plate is deformed.

It's a 2005 so the repair should be covered under warranty by your Nissan Dealer
