2001 Dodge Caravan

A Readers Question...

A Dodge Caravan losses Power Steering and the Battery Light comes on.

The power steering suddenly stopped working in my Dodge Caravan 2001. The battery light turned on but the van still ran. Did one problem cause the other?

Answer:

It sounds to me like you have a broken serpentine belt. The serpentine belt, or drive belt, turns the power steering pump, alternator and air conditioning compressor, among other things. Without the drive belt you would lose power steering and the battery light would come on.

Chrysler is somewhat known for the drive belts falling off under certain conditions.
